There’s a soft know on the door, the door to the house that’s not supposed to exist. The Outlaws looks at each other. Then the leader, Jason Todd, known throughout the world as Red Hood sighs, “I told you Roy if you want pizza get delivered to the desk not the apartment.” Jason stands grabbing his wallet. “Uh, hood,” Roy Harper, Arsenal to villains worldwide. “I didn’t order pizza, I got Thai.” Jason stands looking at Roy and the pulls his revolver out slowly approaching the door. Looking through the peephole Jason groans opening the door. “Roy, Kori, might want to take a walk.” Entering the apartment is none other Bruce Wayne, The Batman. Jason’s estranged adopted father. “No need, I need you to come with me.” Bruce says looking at Jason. “I’m not one of your lackeys, get Dick or Tim.” Jason says looking bored. “Jason… I need, Jason to come to the manor, not Hood.” Bruce said leaving. This is suspicious to Jason. After a moment Roy asks “You gonna go?” “Yeah, yeah I am.” Jason says grabbing his leather jacket and following the older Wayne.
The ride is quiet and neither speak, Bruce pulls in front of the manor and gets out without a word. “Nice to know something’s haven’t changed.” Jason mutters getting out. Bruce has walked into the house and is already starting up the stairs when Jason follows. When he reaches the landing for the stairs Jason can see Tim and Dick in the drawing room silently watching them. The youngest Wayne pokes his head out of the door of his bedroom as they hit the second landing. There’s no sign of Alfred. Jason’s heart stops, where’s Alfred? Is he sick, dying?” Jason follows Bruce as he stops at a door.
Quietly Bruce begins to speak, “A lot happened while you were away,” Jason has to stop himself from clutching Bruce and demanding where Alfred is, “I know when you left you were angry at me. Did things that you know I would never approve of. But I also know deep down you would never abandon your family if you knew you had one.” Jason’s confused, he doesn’t have family, he has the bats. Bruce opens the door and enters the room.
Jason takes his first breath as he sees Alfred standing over a crib. “Alfred!” Jason says in relief. “Master Jason!” Alfred says in a delighted tone. Alfred turns and Jason sees the infant. It’s a boy, cute boy, in Jason’s opinion. He’s got blond hair and appeared to be sleeping in Alfred’s arms. Jason looks confused at the baby. Bruce can see the questions in Jason’s face. “He’s yours Jason.” Bruce says quietly. Jason stands in shock, “What? How? Who?” “They named him JJ.” Bruce says even quieter. “We’ve taken to calling him Jay.” Bruce explains. Jason is in shock, a child, his child, named JJ. Jason stumbles to rocker in the room and sits down, Alfred walks over and hand Jason the baby. Jason sits starring at the child who sleeps unaware that he is the center of Jason’s world turning upside down.
The silence has dragged on for nearly forty-five minutes. Jason sitting in the rocker holding the infant, “Harley, Harley Quinn is his mother.” Jason says quietly unaware that Bruce has taken the seat next to him. “So you did sleep with her?” Bruce asked. Jason nodded, “Once, we, you and me, we were arguing and I just wanted to piss you off I knew she wouldn’t keep quiet about bedding the Red Hood.” Jason said, “You said they were raising him.” Bruce looks hesitant and then sighs, “Harley and the Joker, after we apprehended them Tim found him in their nursery. We couldn’t leave him there, so we brought him home and did DNA testing on him. I assumed Harley had kidnapped the boy.” Bruce said. “Boy were you in for a shock,” Jason muttered. “Dick was shocked silent and Tim dropped his drink.” Bruce chuckled. “JJ?” Jason asked possibly already knowing the answer. “Joker Junior.” Bruce said, Jason looked sick at the moment.
Jason had lapsed back into silence for several minutes but speaking again. “What are my options?” Jason asked. “Adoption, I’d be willing to adopt him if you want or we could adopt him privately to another family, there is one option but I would need agreement from you.” Bruce said quietly.
“I’m listening.” “
Jason Todd never died.” Bruce answer. Jason looked shock. “Bruce I’ve been dead for what five years now?” Jason snarls. “Four, a prisoner of the men who blew up the building in Sarajevo , Batman, Robin, Nightwing, or your team can find you. Bring you home with you son, Stockholm Syndrome, it would explain the training you can’t control, the estrangness to the family, you could have your trust fund, and raise him.” Bruce explained.
“My team, how am I,” Jason doesn’t want to leave Roy and Star, he enjoys working with them and they get him, get the darkness in him but he wants the chance to raise his son. “I’m sure Alfred would be happy to babysit whenever needed. And Tim, he’s good with him; they seem to get each other.” Bruce said wanting to reach out to his second son.
“What do you need?” Jason said. “Three things, assurance that you not going to run out with him, Tim, Alfred, and Dick especially have grown very fond of him, it would break their hearts if you left and didn’t let them see him, two, dinner twice a month during the week. Nothing fancy but I want a chance Jason, he deserves a chance to have a family that while not perfect can at least sit down to a table.” Bruce said. “And what’s the third?” Jason asked. “I need you to give Damien permission to beat the hell out of you so it looks like you’ve been a prisoner.” Bruce mutters. “No broken bones.” Jason amended, “I can agree to that.” Bruce agreed. “Done, bring me back from the dead Batman” Jason said; Bruce smiles.
“I’ll leave you and Jay…”Jason interrupts, “Thomas, Thomas Alfred Wayne.” Jason says looking that the boy his eyes opening to the dark blue orbs of Jason’s own. Bruce can’t explained how touched is and the amount of hope it gives him. “Alright, when you’re ready we’ll begin.” Bruce says quietly leaving. Jason looks at the Thomas, Tommy, as Jason has dubbed him in his head. Raising Tommy up so they are eye level, “ I want to tell you something that I wished either of my fathers had told me, and I’ll tell you this every day till I quit breathing, you are brave, you are wanted, you can do anything, and I will love no matter what.”
